We have logged yet, another food distribution as part of our annual campaign support.

How was it?

Well—crazy, chaotic, out of control, loud..., but a rewarding, exciting, and humbling experience at the same time.

We distributed food supplies to 75 families to last the average family of five approximately 2~3 weeks. The food supplies included basic things such as rice, lentils, flour, cooking oil, etc.

We chose a particular slum, given the condition of the location. The houses at this place are made of plastic bags and cardboard found in the trash. It has been raining in India, making it incredibly difficult for the residents. The houses are prone to flooding, rendering them virtually homeless.

This food distribution has motivated us to bring our shoe distribution project back. We noticed that many children roam the slums without foot protection, posing a significant risk to their health. As you might expect, the slums have a lot of trash lying around (including broken glass) and wondering animals. A skin cut could put them at risk of contracting a severe infection. Many of these people do not have the necessary monetary funds to 1) pay for transportation to a local hospital or 2) pay for the needed medical treatment.

We have done shoe distributions in the last. One of the challenges we have faced is making the kids and their parents understand the importance of wearing shoes for protection. Provided a budget permit, we will try to get comfortable footwear. We will also be prepared with a team of people who will help us send a strong message to the residents in the area.

We will continue to post updates about our projects as we move forward. Stay tuned for more!
