Hands 4 Zero Poverty (H4ZP) is assisting in the development of a safe drop off location for unwanted babies. A location with the necessary technology to alert the appropriate professionals to take action before it is too late. This is a project we are committed to implement during our next campaign (#Ithankyou4 campaign).

Why are we doing this?
In recent months, three babies have been dropped off at the sidewalk in front of the Specialized Adoption Agency in Faridabad, India. Due to the timing of the drop off, the babies were left unattended for a few hours.

Having babies dropped off near an adoption center is a significant step towards the safeguarding of these children. Babies are usually left behind at public places. Rail stations are among the most common locations. At these locations, many children spend over 24 hours without the proper care. A vast majority do not survive their ordeal. At Hands 4 Zero Poverty we are well aware about this danger. In 2018 we had the honor to meet and support baby Ananya, a 6-month-old baby found one day after her birth; wrapped in newspaper near a Dumpster. We encourage you to read Ananya’s story at: http://www.h4zp.org/ananyas-campaign

We are excited to pursue this project because, leaving babies unattended for hours in the middle of the night is a huge risk. Some of the risks include:

  • Unwanted interest from street animals.

  • Being exposed to unforgiving weather conditions.

  • Being taken by an unauthorized person.

Why is this important?
Primarily to save the life of a child. Secondly, to allow a mother and her family the ability to give their baby a second chance without being judged. NOTE: Many families in India believe that leaving a child behind is against the law. This is one of the main reasons many babies are left at locations not readily accessible to the public.

What is our goal?
Have an electronic system that will silently alert the adoption center staff when a baby has been dropped off. The staff will be able to react quickly and therefore, provide the necessary care they need.

We also hope to encourage other families to follow suit. We hope families will continue to come to the designated drop off locations instead of relying on places where the babies can go unattended for many hours, if not days.

How can you help?
Can you can help by:

  • Providing ideas of alarm systems that can be used to meet the goal of this project.

  • Purchasing and donating a system you think will be suitable for this project.

  • Providing a system that you have which you no longer need.

  • Donating to this project.

The success of this project deeply depends our supporters. If this project proves to be successful, we plan to develop drop off locations at other places around the city. Places that would be more strategic for the families who want to give their child for adoption or a second chance.
